How to define zones?

Zone and area of influence

  • An area of influence is a detection range around an access point (tracker). We can visualize it as a circular areas with a radius.

  • A zone is a set of areas of influence.

Whenever a device is located in an area of influence, it is assigned to its zone.

General rules (igniteNet Spark Wave 2 mini)

  • Minimum separation between ap’s of different zones: 16 meters

  • Maximum distance between ap’s in the same area: 6 meters

  • There is no AP’s limit per zone

  • The more separated the zones, the better the system will work

  • An area of influence will have a radius of 8 meters

Area of influence

Area = π * r * r =>  Area = π * 8 * 8 => 201 square meter

To avoid

  • Low zone separation

Ideally

Square space

Minimum space for 2 zones

  • A side of at least 16 meters.

Elongated space

Considerations

  • The walls and furniture attenuate the detection area.

  • A brick wall will cause more attenuation than a glass wall.
